NY Giants aren’t letting backup RB Matt Breida go anywhere
The NY Giants have been busy on Monday. While some guys will be leaving town, running back Matt Breida won’t be one of them. Breida has proven to be a very solid backup to star RB Saquon Barkley, and he’ll be returning to East Rutherford for at least one more season with the NFC East side.
According to insider Jordan Schultz, general manager Joe Schoen and Breida have agreed to a new contract for the ’23 campaign. Per Schultz’s sources, the deal for the veteran RB could be worth around $2.3 million with incentives.

NY Giants re-sign running back Matt Breida to a one-year deal
Breida inked a one-year deal with the Giants ahead of the 2022 campaign to be RB2 and he sure looked sharp at times throughout the fall and winter. Last season, the veteran speedster rushed for 220 yards and 54 carries, averaging 4.1 yards per touch. Breida scored one TD. He also caught 20 balls for 118 yards.
The 5-10, 195-pounder wasn’t brought in to be a superstar or anything, but he took advantage of the limited action he received. Now, he’ll look to deliver once again for the G-Men once next September arrives.
Breida re-signing with the team adds to the news of Schoen getting things done with punter Jamie Gillan and long snapper Casey Kreiter. Unfortunately, Giants fans have also seen offensive lineman Nick Gates agree to a new deal with the Washington Commanders.
However, Schoen has added some help on defense, agreeing to a three-year deal with veteran defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Plenty of more moves will be on the way from the NY front office, with fans following everything closely.
The Breida re-signing feels like yet another solid decision from Schoen and Co. For offense specifically, NY supporters are now waiting to see if anything else will get done at wide receiver. Some news should be coming there soon too.
