Are you not entertained?! In some massive news on Tuesday, NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen has pulled a rabbit out of his hat and made one of the biggest moves of the week. Moments ago, it was reported that the Giants have made a blockbuster trade to land one of the best tight ends in the game.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the one and only Darren Waller will be making his way from the Las Vegas Raiders over to East Rutherford to suit up for the G-Men. Who in the world saw this coming?
NY Giants land TE Darren Waller in blockbuster trade with the Raiders
Boom! Not only that, but the Giants are sending the Raiders a third-round pick (No. 100 overall) to Vegas in exchange for Waller according to team insider Jordan Raanan. Yes, that No. 100 pick (along with another late-round selection) is the one that the Kansas City Chiefs sent to the G-Men in exchange for Kadarius Toney ahead of the trade deadline last fall.
So, the Giants in essence turned Toney into Waller? Goodness, Schoen has once again proven to be a magician. Despite Waller dealing with injuries in recent seasons, he’s without question one of the best tight ends in the game when he’s healthy.
Waller was only able to appear in nine games last season due to injury, catching 28 balls for 388 yards and three touchdowns. However, don’t forget that the former Pro Bowler posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020. Now, he’ll be catching balls from Daniel Jones and working with Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka.
For the Giants, this of course feels like a brilliant move in landing another big-time target for Danny Dimes. However, it will only matter if Waller can keep himself healthy. Over the past two seasons, Waller, 30, has missed 13 games.
With that said, his playmaking abilities are tremendous and fans are hopeful he can not only stay close to 100 percent, but also make a monster impact for the NYG offense.
4 WRs the NY Giants can still target in free agency
The Giants desperately need wide reciever help, and there are some intriguing names still left on the free agent market for Joe Schoen to go after.
