Darius Slayton had the best reaction to re-signing with the Giants
After re-signing Jihad Ward to a new deal earlier in the day, Joe Schoen has decided to bring back another key piece for the NY Giants as well. While there had been plenty of speculation that wide receiver Darius Slayton would play elsewhere in 2023, we now know that’s not going to be happening after all.
Slayton, coming off a bounce-back year in 2022 with the G-Men, isn’t going anywhere. According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the G-Men are keeping Slayton in town on a two-year deal. Shortly after the news broke, Slayton took to Twitter to share his excitment with Big Blue nation. This tweet is nothing short of hilarious:
The NY Giants have re-signed Darius Slayton to a two-year deal
Over the past few weeks, it really did feel like Slayton was going to be suiting up with a different team in 2023. However, Schoen and him were able to get on the same page contract wise, which is of course great to see.
Slayton has dealt with issues dropping the ball with the Giants, which everyone was reminded of in the Wild Card Round vs. the Vikings. In that upset win, Slayton dropped a pass from Jones late in the action that could have iced the game for the NFC East side. Thankfully, the defense stepped up and made the last stop to help NY advance.
Saquon Barkley was quick to go pick up Slayton’s head after the final whistle, as he was still beating himself up. Now, that’s all in the past and Slayton will once again be a big piece of the offense for Brian Daboll moving forward. This past campaign, Slayton caught 46 balls for 724 yards and two touchdowns.
He’s a big-play threat for the G-Men, which we saw against the Jaguars in October, as his clutch TD grab was awesome. Then, his 54-yard score vs. the Houston had countless people at MetLife Stadium off their seats. We’ll see what Slayton will be able to cook up in ’23.
