3. Signing Bobby Okereke: A+

Heading into the offseason, just about everyone knew that the NY Giants were going to make some sort of splash at linebacker. Not only was this the biggest need on the team, but the Giants finally had the cap space to address it.

With that in mind, Schoen went out and signed Bobby Okereke to a four-year, $40 million contract. Okereke may not have been the best LB on the market, but considering what the best guy got paid, we’re more than happy with what the Giants got.

Over the last couple of seasons, the Giants have consistently had one of the worst linebacker cores in the entire NFL, however, it finally seems like there will be an actually good player at the position. In 17 games with the Colts last season, Okereke racked up 151 combined tackles, five pass deflections and two forced fumbles. Okereke may not be the best in coverage, but he is nowhere near a liability like previous Giants linebackers.

The speed, aggressiveness, and IQ that Okereke plays with are incredible – his ability to stop the run is amongst some of the best in the league and is exactly what this Giants’ defense needs. Gone are the days of watching Jaylon Smith and Tae Crowder stand around cluelessly waiting for the ball carrier to hit them before they make a move.
