The New York Giants had another down year in 2024, a season filled with disappointment, offensive struggles, and questions about the future of the front office. Furthermore, Big Blue fans can all agree they've heard enough from the national media about Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney this season, a pair of former Giants playing at an All-Pro level.
But rather than focusing on those who are thriving in their new homes, why not look at those who couldn't find a rhythm? The list may not be as flashy, but there are still a handful of ex-G-Men who didn't live up to expectations in 2024.
Three former Giants who didn't work out with their new team
3. Oshane Ximines
While fans knew Ximines as a key rotational piece on the defensive line from 2019-2022, NY had very little need for him once they traded for Boogie Basham. He bounced between the practice squad and the 53-man roster a year ago, but the writing was on the wall for his Giants tenure.
'X-Man' impressed with the Patriots during the preseason and looked like he was going to play an important role in New England. Unfortunately, the former Giant tore his ACL on punt coverage in Week 2, ending his season prematurely. He finished with just one tackle, leaving his future uncertain moving forward.
2. Mark Glowinski
Glowinski signed a three-year contract with NY in 2022, starting 16 games when Brian Daboll's squad made the playoffs. His playing time dwindled last year, but he still appeared in 13 contests. The Giants decided to release him in March before his contract year to save money.
The veteran offensive guard spent all of free agency without a new deal until he returned to the Colts, the same team he spent four years with before heading to East Rutherford. They signed him to the practice squad in November and started him in five games. However, his 53.4 overall PFF grade was lower than any of NY's six top linemen, and his best years are clearly behind him. It's safe to say the front office made the right move letting him go.
1. Jihad Ward
Rounding out the list is Ward, who became a fan-favorite during his time with the Giants. NY let him walk in free agency, letting the Vikings scoop him up on a team-friendly deal. Unfortunately, he hasn't enjoyed the same success in 2024.
Ward had a career season a year ago, recording five sacks and five TFLs. That level of play was clearly not sustainable, as his numbers dipped to one sack and one TFL. His snap rate also dropped from 58.6% to 41.1%, so Minnesota has not utilized him nearly as often as he once was in NY. Luckily for Ward, he enters the playoffs with one of the NFL's most impressive defenses and a chance to earn his first Super Bowl ring.
