It already feels like John Harbaugh has been around for a while, but so many things remain unsettled for the New York Giants.

As the team gears up for training camp at the end of the month, multiple spots on the roster are still up for grabs.

Let's take a closer look at three of the more contentious battles yet to be decided on the Giants' roster before training camp.

3 position battles to watch as New York Giants enter training camp

Running Back

The top of New York's running back depth chart is already established. Cam Skattebo will lead the way, and Tyrone Tracy will play a key role, especially on third downs.

The picture becomes much less clear after those two. Veteran back Devin Singletary is currently the favorite to land the third spot, but his position is far from secure after an inefficient 2025 campaign. Eric Gray is still on the roster, but he didn't have a role in the offense last season after struggling in 2024.

Rookie undrafted free agent Damon Bankston is already gaining some steam as a sneaky pick to steal a roster spot. Look for him to challenge Singletary, Gray, and Dante Miller for roster positioning during training camp.

Tight End

Another position where the top two spots are already secured, the Giants' tight end room has a new look this offseason. Isaiah Likely has taken over the lead role, pushing Theo Johnson to second on the depth chart.

34-year-old Chris Manhertz is expected to land the third tight end spot, but he will have to fend off Thomas Fidone II and Tanner Conner in training camp. It's unclear whether New York will choose to roster three or four tight ends, but Likely's specific skill set would indicate that they'll probably keep four.

That means that Fidone and Conner are set to battle for the final spot.

Kicker

Yes, this is still going on.

The Giants' three-man kicker battle has been reduced to two after veteran Jason Sanders was let go earlier this offseason. Now, Ben Sauls and undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada are competing to win the starting job.

Zvada looks like the early favorite after strong performances in minicamp. ESPN Giants reporter Jordan Raanan watched Zvada go 13-for-13 on field goals during practice.

But don't be fooled. This kicker competition isn't going anywhere quite yet. We expect this to drag into training camp before a clear winner emerges.
