3 NY Giants players who likely played their final game for Big Blue
2: WR Darius Slayton
Veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton has been the subject of trade rumors all season and could be dealt on Tuesday at the deadline. The 27-year-old has been one of the Giants' most consistent wideouts, as he has been the team's leading receiver in four of the last five years. This season, the veteran has performed well with 32 receptions for 469 yards and a touchdown and has been a solid WR2 option behind rookie phenom Malik Nabers and emerging star Wan'Dale Robinson.
Slayton is in concussion protocol after getting hurt late in the fourth quarter of New York's loss to the Washington Commanders this past week. While the veteran's injury status should not impact whether or not he is available to other teams, it could affect how potential trade partners view him with him in protocol. Plenty of teams still need a wide receiver at this year's deadline, such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with Chris Godwin ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.
During training camp, Slayton sat out of team activities to restructure his contract. The veteran will become an unrestricted free agent following the season, so he is viewed as a cheap rental by contending teams looking to make a playoff push. The Giants will seek a draft pick or two in return. It will be interesting to see if Schoen moves on from Slayton or if he sticks around and the G-Men offers another extension.
