3 NY Giants players who likely played their final game for Big Blue
1: LB Azeez Ojulari
Like Slayton, Giants outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari is also in his final year on his current contract and may not be retained by Big Blue following the season. The 2021 second-round pick had a fantastic start to his professional career, finishing the season with eight sacks, which set a franchise record for most sacks by a rookie. While Ojulari showed signs of success early on, his stock has declined over the last few seasons due to several injuries. Still, he's quietly bouncing back this year and filling in nicely for Kayvon Thibodeaux, who is sidelined with a wrist injury.
The Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons have all expressed interest in Ojulari. The veteran linebacker will likely be dealt as Thibodeaux is nearing a return after the Giants' bye week, and the team just signed linebacker Tomon Fox off their practice squad to their 53-man roster. There may not be room for Ojulari, and it doesn't seem like the Giants would want to retain the 24-year-old while they are already paying for their starters, Kayvon and Brian Burns.
Ojulari has made the most of this opportunity and has filled in nicely with Thibodueax sidelined, with five sacks in the last three games. While the Cardinals are in the mix for Ojulari, they did acquire Broncos edge rusher Baron Browning in exchange for a sixth-round pick. I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants acquired a similar return package for Ojulari. I wouldn't be surprised if the Detroit Lions made a push for the veteran linebacker with Pro Bowl defensive end Aidan Hutchinson out for the season and the team currently contending for a Super Bowl.
