4 NY Giants who deserve to be in the NFL award conversations
After a 29-20 victory in Week 5, the NY Giants season has new life. Add in the fact the Giants were undermanned, on the road and seemingly dominated for all 60 minutes, there is a lot of positive buzz around this team. In 2022, the Giants made the playoffs because Brian Daboll was able to get the most out of his players.
In 2024, it's no different. The record may not be the prettiest, but the Giants have been playing good football for the past four weeks. So good, in fact, some may even hear their names called on awards night. Here are four players who deserve to be under consideration:
Defensive Rookie of the Year- CB Andru Phillips
The third-round pick out of Kentucky started his Giants career off with a bang. Andru Phillips forced a fumble on the first defensive series of the year and since that moment he's been a focal point for the Giants defensively. He followed up his impressive debut with a coming out party against the Washington Commanders. Phillips had 12 total tackles , including two for a loss, and a sack.
He was a non-factor in Cleveland because of an injury and missed the game against Dallas, but had a nice return to the field against Seattle. With four total tackles in a more limited role, Phillips proves every time he's on the field just how valuable he is in the slot position. Phillips has versatility not many other defensive rookies have and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen has done a great job at using that versatility to the Giants' advantage. It's been a great start to what is hopefully a long, successful career with the Giants for Phillips. Hopefully, the league sees that as well.
Coming up next: some love for Danny Dimes
