Few teams around the NFL have seen as much change this offseason as the New York Giants. The team acquired a new head coach, signed a deep class of free agents, traded away Dexter Lawrence II, and made two franchise-altering first-round selections.
As the dust settles from the pre-training-camp portion of the offseason, we can finally take a look at some of the players affected most by the mass turnover.
Some have emerged better than ever, while others have been left behind.
Biggest winners and losers from New York Giants offseason
Winner: RB Cam Skattebo
Skattebo wasn't particularly efficient in 2025, averaging 4.1 yards per attempt. But his 2.2 yards before contact per attempt (well below league average) indicate that the lack of efficiency in the Giants' rushing attack wasn't all his fault.
The second-year running back is set up much better this season after the additions of Francis Mauigoa and Patrick Ricard. Increased surrounding talent and encouraging progression in his recovery make Skattebo a clear winner this offseason.
While he may not hit his astronomical goals in 2026, we expect a big year from Skatt.
Winner: WR Malachi Fields
The Giants' pecking order at receiver still isn't completely clear, but Fields is emerging as an early standout. The rookie made a few highlight-worthy plays at OTAs earlier in the spring and has established a strong connection with quarterback Jackson Dart.
He's expected to compete for a starting job in training camp, especially if Malik Nabers isn't fully recovered by the start of the year. He'll take time to develop, but the third-round pick is already off to a strong start.
Winner: QB Jaxson Dart
Dart didn't stand out during minicamp, but there's no need for fans to worry. He's adjusting to a new system under Matt Nagy and has multiple new receivers to build connections with.
The general lift in talent around the second-year quarterback should carry more weight than a couple of shaky practices. Like Skattebo, Dart should benefit from playing behind a better offensive line. If Nagy truly molds the offensive scheme around the quarterback's skill set, we expect him to avoid the year-two slump some are worried about.
Winner: IDL Darius Alexander
It's addition by subtraction for Alexander. After the Lawrence trade and the unfortunate injury to Roy Robertson-Harris, the second-year defensive lineman is expected to start on the Giants' interior.
The former third-round pick didn't have a strong rookie season, but he picked up his play in the back half of the year. New York needs him to continue his progress into 2026 if they're going to field a competent defense.
Winner: K Dominic Zvada
Yes, the Giants are still dealing with the uncertainty at kicker that stretched throughout the 2025 season. But it seems like Zvada could be the answer they've been waiting for. He vastly outperformed Ben Sauls (who could be listed here as an offseason loser) at minicamp and has emerged as the frontrunner in the position battle.
We're just hoping that the UDFA can seal the deal so Big Blue can stop cycling through kickers.
Loser: LB Micah McFadden
When the G-Men drafted Arvell Reese at No. 5 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, most experts assumed that his potential transition to the edge would cause Kayvon Thibodeaux to be the odd man out. Instead, the Giants chose to play the rookie primarily as an off-ball linebacker.
That leaves McFadden on the second line of the depth chart after entering the offseason as a presumed starter. The fifth-year defender will still play a role in New York's defense, but he'll be more limited than initially expected.
Loser: OL Evan Neal
The selection of Mauigoa and subsequent reports that he would play guard have shut down any chances Neal had of earning a significant role in the 2026 version of the Giants' offense. It's been a rough four years for the former top-ten pick, and it didn't get any better this offseason.
He's currently the team's third right guard, behind Mauigoa and Daniel Faalele. Unless he turns things around in a big way during training camp, Neal might not make the Giants' final roster this season.
