The New York Giants and Tennessee Titans have seemingly been headed toward a collision course over the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft since the G-Men’s Matthew Stafford pursuit fell through.
With the franchise in desperate need of a quarterback and Tennessee rumored to be open for business, all signs have pointed to general manager Joe Schoen making a move to secure the top spot.
But as we’ve learned this offseason, nothing is ever simple when it comes to the Giants and quarterbacks. First, Stafford chose the Pacific sunset over a new challenge in New York. Then, Aaron Rodgers’ name started floating around, but his rumored motivations—mainly sticking it to the New York Jets—hardly seem like a great reason to bring him in. Now, with the draft on the horizon, it looked like the Giants were positioning themselves to trade up for a quarterback, until Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter decided to throw gas to the fire.
With one cryptic social media post, Carter may have just hinted at a major shift in the draft landscape. And if he’s right, it could completely change how the Giants approach their quarterback hunt.
Abdul Carter posts after Harold Landry III's release
Shortly after meeting with Abdul Carter for one of their 30 visits, the Titans released veteran pass-rusher Harold Landry III, which opened the floodgates for speculation—including from Carter himself.
Immediately after the news, Carter took to social media to post a smiley face and a hand with one finger raised, indicating he may have some insider information after his meeting with Tennessee brass. All speculation now points to the Titans selecting Carter No. 1 overall this upcoming draft, and that is incredibly interesting for the Giants.

Stuck in quarterback purgatory, general manager Joe Schoen is quite literally exhausting every lead to land the team's next future signal caller. The G-Men have been rumored to be engaged in trade talks with the Titans to move up to the first overall pick to have their selection of quarterbacks—to choose their own destiny, if you will.
Well, this cryptic post by Carter might have thrown a wrench in that plan for good. If the Titans are planning on drafting Carter No. 1 overall, as his post surely insinuates, then Schoen might not have to trade up. However, the Cleveland Browns still lurk at No. 2, and they still need a quarterback.
Whether this is an unrelated play by Carter or not, it's surely going to have the Giants and the rest of the quarterback-needy teams optimistically puzzled. Big Blue could have its shot at Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders at No. 3, and that would be a dream-case scenario. Even still, why leave it up to chance if Tennessee is willing to make a move for fair compensation?
