Adam Schefter just put Giants’ Jeremiyah Love dream further out of reach

Is this where the narrative officially dies?

Cam Skattebo truthers need put all their emotion aside, for just one more day, as the New York Giants get set for a pair of top-10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.

For what feels like eons, now, there have been countless whispers and reports about the Giants' interest in selecting running back Jeremiyah Love with that no. 5 overall pick. Whether you're a huge fan of Skattebo or not, the smoke has been too large to ignore.

And, on the most recent episode of ESPN's "Get Up," NFL insider Adam Schefter was welcomed in to talk about one particular team picking ahead of the Giants. Specifically, Schefter was asked if he thinks the Arizona Cardinals will take Love with that third overall pick:

"Kevin, I think if they stay there they will [select Jeremiyah Love]. But the main question, here, is whether the Cardinals will actually stay at three. A lot of people around the league are wondering if the Cardinals move out ... what teams are out there that can move up that far? It's not a long list."

Well, that's quite the draft nugget as we approach the 24-hour mark until the first round opens.

Adam Schefter all but puts Giants' Jeremiyah Love hopes to bed with latest intel

First of all, yes, there is a lot ot say about the Giants' possible drafting of Love when they have Skattebo; not to mention Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary. But, as you've probably come to understand by now, Love is viewed as a generational type of talent.

Adding Love to an offense with Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers, plus the free agent addition of Isaiah Likely... whew, boy. That would be fun.

And, I don't think we've heard people talk enough about what kind of tandem we'd see out of Love and Skattebo. Sure, Love has it all. He's also phenomenal at breaking tackles and being a physical runner when he needs to be.

But, the ability to keep Love fresh for the entire season and give him much-needed breathers, all while having full trust in Skattebo to come in and excel as the latter of a one-two punch?

It's tantalizing, to be quite honest.

Everyone wants to jump to the conclusion that Love would just replace Skattebo altogether, but look at how many successful offenses use multiple backs on a regular basis. It's what the NFL has evolved into.

Now, Love would still be well-worth getting 18-plus touches per game. But, what's the best way to help ease the pressure off a young quarterback?

Having a top-tier run game.

But, with Schefter's latest intel, the Giants could be coming up just short on Love -- and we're not even talking about the Tennessee Titans, now.

For a long time, the consensus seemed to be that the Titans would take Love with the fourth overall pick. Now, the Titans might not even get their chance to take him, which would really throw a curveball into the early picks.

On the plus side, the Cardinals taking Love might also then mean the Titans have a hard time passing on an edge rusher at four. That could leave the Giants with another tantalizing option at five, going after the best wide receiver on the board to pair with Nabers.

It could also allow both Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles to fall right into the Giants' lap, giving them a tough decision there.

In the end, maybe missing out on Love isn't the worst thing in the world because, again, Skattebo is more than capable of shouldering the load.

But, that doesn't mean the thought of losing out doesn't sting a little.
