If you're looking to buy in on the New York Giants before it's cool, it's already too late. Since hiring head coach John Harbaugh in January, the G-Men have steadily built up momentum as a playoff contender.
With training camp on the doorstep, they're no longer a dark-horse postseason candidate. The Giants are a legitimate threat to make the playoffs.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter fully believes the hype. During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," he said, "Cam [Skattebo], Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, those guys are all healthy, they're gonna be a playoff team. They're gonna be a playoff team. If those guys can stay healthy and play a majority of the season, I think they can go to the playoffs."
Good luck stopping the hype now.
Giants' playoff potential is more than just hype
It's not just Schefter predicting a playoff appearance for the Giants. Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon and Eric Edholm of NFL.com both see the vision.
The argument makes itself. This is a team with a talented young core that was decimated by injuries last season, and one of the most consistent head coaches of the century just took the reins.
If the Giants follow a similar path to the one Harbaugh led the Baltimore Ravens on in his early days, a playoff appearance is inevitable. The Ravens made the postseason in each of Harbaugh's first five seasons in charge after winning just five games the season before he arrived. With an injection of his winning culture, the G-Men could enjoy similar success.
Schefter's caveat carries weight, though. The Giants' offensive core of Dart, Nabers, and Skattebo has to stay on the field to give the team's playoff hopes legs. We saw last season how limited Dart is when he doesn't have Nabers and Skattebo on the field with him. He's an electric quarterback, but he can't create a competent offense on his own.
While Skattebo is set to be ready to go entering training camp, Nabers is still sidelined. His return date is unclear, with general manager Joe Schoen's Week 1 goal appearing less realistic by the day. The superstar wide receiver may miss some time early in the year, but the Giants will hope to have him back on the field quickly.
If all three young players can stay healthy throughout John Harbaugh's first season, the G-Men will be well on their way to their first playoff appearance since 2022.
