The New York Giants had one job: just be better. After a truly historically abysmal 2024, it felt like doing better would be pretty easy, especially considering it'd be nearly impossible to do any worse. Well, here we are, sitting 0-2, looking just as lost as ever.
This team is struggling. They have no identity. And after an offseason full of hyping up this supposed elite defense, it's been anything but. The G-Men are allowing the most yards per game with 455, and are tied for the fifth-worst scoring defense with 30.5 points allowed per game to boot. It's no wonder that fans are already giving up on the season. And as it turns out, it might not just be the fans who are already feeling dejected.
Unfortunately, ESPN's Jordan Raanan has reported that Giants defensive leader Dexter Lawrence is getting increasingly frustrated with this team by the day. That is simultaneously the worst thing imaginable for Big Blue and super understandable.
Dexter Lawrence is getting very frustrated, per Jordan Raanan:

Giants absolutely cannot lose Dexter Lawrence to the darkness
Is anyone really all that surprised Sexy Dexy is finally showing signs of frustration? This is a guy entering Year 7, who's seen 32 victories, 69 losses, and one tie, with only one playoff appearance. That amount of constant losing has to be enough to tick off just about everyone who's even remotely competitive.
Remember, this is a guy who won two National Championships at Clemson. Losing's not really his thing.
But it's not like the front office is just sitting idly by. They understand how important he is to the franchise. Earlier in the offseason, Big Blue added $3 million worth of incentives to Lawrence's $17 million salary, giving him $20 million in earning potential. It was a deal of good faith... that he'd be taken care of in New York. Sadly, money doesn't buy happiness.
And that's objectively terrible news for the Giants. This is a situation they need to modify and rectify ASAP — they can't afford to screw this one up. The 27-year-old is too important.
And with DC Shane Bowen’s defense somehow getting worse by the snap, it’s no wonder a player like Dex might already be emotionally checking out.
This season was already shaping up to be brutal, and Giants fans can’t afford to see the team’s best player spiral right along with it. If the cracks in Dexter Lawrence’s commitment get any bigger, this season won’t just be a failure — it’ll be a full-blown disaster. This is something to monitor for sure.
