John Harbaugh and Andy Reid are both members of the elite group of NFL coaches to win more than 150 games. They're both legends of the sport in their own right. But that doesn't mean they're too good for a bit of sage wisdom.
Soon after Harbaugh was hired as the head coach of the New York Giants, Reid gave him a simple piece of advice: "Change can be good."
Reid ought to know. He has become one of the greatest coaches in league history after joining the Kansas City Chiefs, taking his team to seven consecutive AFC Championship Games. Giants fans can only hope that Harbaugh sees similar success in New York.

When asked for a quote that sums up the Giants' offseason, Dan Salamone of the team's official site pointed back to Reid's wisdom for Harbaugh. At his introductory press conference, Harbaugh said, "That's what he said, change can be good. He was excited. He's fired up for us. He's a good friend."
Reid isn't a bad mentor to have in your corner. His career has taken a similar path to the one Harbaugh seems to be on, and he's come out as an NFL legend.
His first head coaching stint lasted 14 years with the Philadelphia Eagles. His teams were consistently competitive, even making a Super Bowl appearance. But the Eagles became stagnant in Reid's later years, leading to his firing. He responded by building one of the greatest dynasties in league history with the Chiefs.
Harbaugh's Baltimore Ravens followed a similar trajectory, steadily competing in the AFC but falling short of expectations in recent years. When they missed the playoffs in 2025 despite entering the year as Super Bowl favorites, it was time for Baltimore to part ways with its long-time head coach.
For the first time in 18 years, Harbaugh is entering a new building, establishing a new culture, and training a new group of players. It's an undertaking, but it could be what the 63-year-old head coach needs to reinvigorate his NFL career.
After joining the Ravens, Harbaugh posted double-digit wins in four of his first five seasons. His arrival provided the jolt of energy Baltimore needed to turn things around. If the head coach can have a similar impact in New York, Giants fans could be in for a long stretch of winning football.
