On what was already a fantastic Sunday Night for the New York Giants, their 2026 first-round picks made it even sweeter. In the 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, both Francis Maugioa and Arvell Reese made strong impressions in their NFL debuts, and both Giants rookies look like future All-Pros.
While Mauigoa's debut was wilder, the fifth overall pick had the stronger evening. Reese was one of just four Giants defenders to play all 58 defensive snaps (alongside Tyler Nubin, Tremaine Edmunds, and Jevon Holland), and logged five tackles (which was second-most on the team), a TFL, and a quarterback hit while holding the Dallas offense to just 244 total yards and just 69 on the ground.
That's an impressive night for an NFL debut on primetime, and it's validating the high hopes Big Blue has for him--but he's also catching the attention of his teammates. While addressing the media on Tuesday, his fellow LB Tremaine Edmunds revealed that he was impressed with what he saw from the 21-year-old:
"It was good to see him make plays out there," Edmunds said. "He was able to show his athleticism and speed on display. Sky is the limit for him. That's only week one. We've got a long season ahead. Continue to get in the film room with one another and just continue to take those steps with one another."

Saying the sky's the limit for the 21-year-old after just one NFL game just goes to show you how much everyone in New York believes in this guy.
They see the IQ, the athleticism, and are salivating over the possibility that Dennard Wilson's defense could have the Defensive Rookie of the Year--after all, he looked like one in Week 1.
The other thing to note here is that Edmunds is aware that he and Reese are the dynamic duo who are going to alter the complexion of this defense. The linebacker room was a sore spot a season ago, but between the two of them, it's offered a level of playmaking that has made the entire defense better.
Here's the thing, though: even Tremaine Edmunds knows it wasn't a perfect debut for the rookie. He had some lapses in coverage and allowed three receptions, so that should be an area to work on. Obviously there's going to be a learning curve, but the flashes of potential drastically outweigh everything else.
The other thing he mentioned is that it's a long season. There are 16 more opportunities for the former Ohio State standout to keep growing, learning, making plays, and making an instant impact--and clearly Edmunds has enough faith in Reese as his new mentor to keep taking those strides.
Everyone who follows the G-Men knows Arvell Reese shined against the Cowboys and certainly offered fans--among others-- a reason to be excited. But with Tremaine Edmunds continuing to push him to be great, it's only a matter of time before an already-great draft pick looks even better.
