Brian Daboll emerges as early contender for redemption shot after Giants exit

Just give it a week... or two.

It feels like just yesterday that the New York Giants hired Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to be the organization's 22nd head coach. It also feels like a century ago. I guess that's just what happens when the franchise wins 11 of its last 46 games over the past two-plus seasons.

Daboll isn't on the hook for all of those losses... only 33 of them. Needless to say, things didn't exactly go the way either side would have hoped when they brought him to East Rutherford in 2022 to help shapeshift Daniel Jones into a franchise-caliber quarterback. That didn't happen, and after starting the 2025 season 2-8, ownership finally had enough and fired him.

It's unclear what Dabs' coaching market looks like, but after successful stints in both the NFL and college, his name is sure to pop up around the coaching market again soon. After all, he is only four years removed from being regarded as one of the most brilliant offensive minds and QB builders of our time.

In fact, it looks like Giants fans might have to keep an eye out for the Las Vegas Raiders as a potential destination. Just Blog Baby's Brad Berreman believes the 50-year-old could be one of Vegas' stronger options for their recent offensive coordinator opening:

"He [Daboll] may also have some character concerns, or at the very least, his coaching style may starkly contrast with Pete Carroll. That said, the chance to hand-pick a young quarterback in the 2026 draft could tip the scales toward Las Vegas for Daboll, who is likely the hottest name on this list."

Fired Giants coach Brian Daboll drawing early buzz for Raiders’ OC job

One team's trash is another team's treasure, I guess. Good for Daboll to know that there are teams out there that would be more than happy to take on his services after watching what's transpired over the last couple of seasons.

The Raiders parted ways with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly on Sunday, immediately following their 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. The 61-year-old had been struggling to produce a competent offense, with Las Vegas ranking third-worst in yards per game (268.9) and dead last in points per game (15.0).

Those certainly aren’t the results Raiders HC Pete Carroll was hoping for when he plucked Kelly from Ohio State fresh off a National Championship run as their OC.

Kelly’s firing marked the third time in as many years that the Raiders have moved on from their offensive signal-caller. That’s not exactly a recipe for success. But maybe that’s where Daboll comes in. He had a wildly successful run as Buffalo’s coordinator -- he knows the role and what it takes. There’s a clear avenue for redemption in the desert.

The Raiders currently hold the fifth pick in the 2026 Draft, and if Big Blue rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has proven anything, it’s that Daboll can thrive when paired with a hand-picked quarterback. Vegas might just be one of the more interesting landing spots out there.
