The 2025 season saw the departure of Brian Daboll as head coach of the New York Giants following a 2-8 start. It was a rough ending to his tenure, and his firing was understandable given the direction things were heading.

This offseason, the Giants landed John Harbaugh after his departure from Baltimore, while Daboll resurfaced in Tennessee as the Titans’ offensive coordinator. The National Football League has taken notice of that move as well, as Moe Moton of Bleacher Report named the Daboll acquisition one of the best of the offseason.

For Giants fans, that might sound strange at first. But the reality is it's a little more complicated than simply calling Daboll’s time in New York a failure.

The Giants and Brian Daboll are both better off moving on

To say that the Daboll era of the New York Giants was a complete failure is far from the truth. It was bad, but it was not the worst that we have ever seen. There is still some substance to say that the 2022 playoff run was an overwhelming positive.

With the removal of Daboll, Harbaugh has come in and completely uprooted whatever was laid there over the past four seasons, and this team is now brand new. A new identity, new vibes, and a new goal set in everyone’s mind.

Tennessee gets a fantastic offensive coordinator, who was a catalyst in Buffalo before joining the Giants. Let us not forget that he was an integral part of why Josh Allen became the player he is today, as Daboll was the offensive coordinator there from 2018 through 2021. Daboll laid the foundation for the same kind of offense that the Bills run today.

The Titans are hoping that whatever went wrong with Daniel Jones under Daboll does not happen with Cam Ward. It has been a rocky road in the Rocky Top, and Tennessee has an opportunity to make some waves in the AFC South next season.

Both sides, Daboll and the Giants, get a nice fresh start ahead of the 2026 season. What happened in New York should stay in New York, and the hope is that both sides will use this reset wisely. Enough time has passed that it should be over and done with.

Daboll being named as one of the best moves of the offseason for the Titans is a great thing to see, even from a Giants point of view, as the failures in New York were not completely his fault.

Should he share some of the blame? Absolutely.

But the Giants going 20-40-1 under his leadership was never a one-person problem, and both sides are now in a much better position moving forward.
