Brian Daboll must send a message by cutting NY Giants veteran after Week 6 loss

If you can't deliver in crunch time, it's time to go.

It's safe to say the Sunday Night Football showdown with the Bengals didn't go according to plan for the NY Giants and head coach Brian Daboll. The Giants had a tremendous opportunity to improve to 3-3 on the year, but Daniel Jones and the offense somehow only scored seven points. Rough.

At the end of the day, several guys didn't make plays when they needed too. The list 100 percent includes veteran kicker Greg Joseph, who left a lot of people pretty darn furious with his play. On the night, Joseph missed two field goals, with the biggest letdown being his 47-yarder that sailed wide with the Giants down 10-7.

With Graham Gano injured, the Giants brought Joseph in to deliver in pressure situations. He proved in primetime that he can't be trusted in those kinds of spots. Last week after the win over Seattle, Daboll said he wasn't going to put up with 'woulda-coulda-shoulda' play from his guys. Now, a message needs to be sent: Joseph needs to be cut.

Giants should cut Greg Joseph after his brutal SNF performance vs. Bengals

His first miss was tough to watch, as it indeed prevented the G-Men from tying things up. His second one came with the G-Men down 17-7 and in desperation mode. With under a minute to go, a Joseph make there would have cut the deficit to seven points, and the G-Men would have lined up for an onside kick to try and pull off a late miracle.

Once again, though, Joseph couldn't connect and the game was over. With Graham Gano eligible to return from Injured Reserve for the Week 7 clash with the Eagles, the hope is that he'll be healthy enough to get back on the field and take over as the starting kicker for this team.

However, should he miss additional time, can the Giants trust Joseph to bounce back and make timely kicks? The answer is no, and it's not a risk Daboll should want to take with Philly on the schedule next.

Can you imagine losing to Nick Sirianni and Co. over a Joseph miss? That'd be a nightmare. In this business, you've got to step up when your number is called. Joseph blew it and it should cost him a spot on the Big Blue roster.
