What a debut for New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Going up against one of the better defensive play-callers in the NFL in the Los Angeles Chargers' Jesse Minter, Dart willed his Giants to a win and had some fun doing so.
The victory didn't come without a monumental loss, though, as star wideout Malik Nabers was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Dart, too, had multiple injury scares. For fans who only noticed the headline about Dart's being evaluated for a concussion against the Chargers, he also endured a hamstring injury.
On Monday, head coach Brian Daboll spoke to reporters and gave a quick update on his quarterback. Per Giants beat reporter Art Stapleton, this Daboll said Dart was "doing good."
Daboll also said he expects Dart to take part in practice on Wednesday, which is a huge positive.
Giants fans can officially breathe a sigh of relief over Jaxson Dart's injury status
Sometimes little injuries like this can get lost after a big win, and that's understandable in this case. It was a big, first win for Dart and the Giants. But, for the rookie passer to come away with multiple injury scares meant that a Monday update could potentially be worse than anticipated.
At times, injuries like these might seem smaller during the game, especially if a player comes back and finishes the contest. Of course, Dart passing concussion protocol during the game was a big positive. But, the nagging concern could very well have been his hamstring.
Hopefully, the hamstring really was just mere tightness and not anything more. Often, a hamstring injury can linger for quite some time if it's anything more than a stretch or slight strain. Even a slight strain could cause Dart to miss a game, so this is a great development.
After a bittersweet afternoon where Giants fans had to deal with a brutal reality in light of Nabers' season being lost, the last thing they needed was more bad news, and especially, on their quarterback.
Knowing Daboll is coaching for his job, this season, he'll likely be very cautious with how he allows Dart to practice this week. If he's practicing in full Wednesday, that would be a bit of a surprise. Most would guess Dart takes it easier for Wednesday's practice. But, if he's a full-go, then fans should rest peacefully knowing all is well with their franchise quarterback.
