There is nothing more important than jersey numbers. You may think that winning games or the division or even the Super Bowl is more important than jersey numbers, but that is incorrect. Again: nothing is more important than jersey numbers.

Cam Skattebo has a jersey number. It's 44, which you knew before you even clicked on this blog. But you may be wondering to yourself, 'gee, I wonder why it's 44? I honestly cannot fathom going through the rest of my week without knowing how Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo chose #44 for his jersey.' I'm right there with you. Fortunately for literally everyone on the planet, he gave us the answer while talking to Kay Adams at some rookies-in-their-jerseys event that I know almost nothing else about.
Cam Skattebo's Giants jersey number choice is, admittedly, very endearing
"Obviously I wanted #4, but it's retired," he said. "My brother wore 44 in high school and growing up. I've worn it a couple times in the past, so kind of a family number. A generational thing for me and my family. I wear one four for me, and one four for him."
Ugh, fine. It's endearing. I was prepared to bring a totally unnecessary amount of snark to this part of the blog, because everything about staging an event for rookies to dress up in their little uniforms feels necessary, but playing the family card always works. One four for him, one four for his brother! Try saying that four times fast.
Now you know why Cam Skattebo chose to wear #44. Now you can rest those weary eyes. Your long journey of wondering is over. This sensation, right now, is how it feels to achieve nirvana. We have reached the peak of enlightenment, you and I, together. You, me, and Cam Skattebo. Go tell everyone you can: Cam Skattebo has a reason for wearing #44. The Giants' season can officially get underway.
