The New York Giants have a lot of hope heading into the 2026 season. After seeing what Jaxson Dart could do during his rookie year and pairing him with a solid head coach in John Harbaugh, Giants fans are optimistic that this season could be a crucial turning point for the organization. That's the hope at least.
Well, Dallas Cowboys fans are already trying to figure out a way to derail that hope. They think they might have an answer too, and, to their credit, it's not a crazy thought from their perspective.
Michael Haney of The Landry Hat, FanSided's Cowboys site, thinks that due to Dart's struggles so far in training camp, the Cowboys already have the edge over the G-Men when the two meet in Week 1 at MetLife Stadium. Haney pointed out how first-year Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker has the ability to put on a clinic against Dart when the two teams square off in a little over a month.
"Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has struggled to adjust to a new offensive scheme so far in camp, leading to a disjointed unit. Parker's defense might just have a field day waiting for them," Haney wrote. "Giants fans are looking for a second-year breakout campaign from Dart, but the Cowboys can quickly put an end to that hype... The G-Men are hoping to see their team shift the tide of the rivalry under John Harbaugh. Parker's defense has a perfect opportunity to put them back in their place."
Cowboys fans already planning to shut down Jaxson Dart in Week 1
On the one hand, what Haney is saying makes perfect sense. Dart has struggled in training camp, as evidence by what Jordan Raanan of ESPN reported on Monday. The exact sentence he used was "Jaxson Dart and the offense have struggled the past few days." That puts it into perspective for sure.
On the other hand, it's only training camp and Dart is adjusting to a new offense. That'd be a challenge for any quarterback, let alone a second-year guy who is still trying to figure things out in the pros.
Giants fans know better than to take what is being reported in training camp as the final word on something. Dart is still a very young player in the league so struggles are to be expected. The Cowboys defense struggled all last year so it's also possible that they're not as dominant as Haney expects them to be right out of the gate. See? It works both ways.
The fact of the matter is that we'll have the answer to this question in Week 1 but even then, the verdict isn't final. Dart can struggle in that game and still go on to be a good quarterback just as easily as he can ball out in that game and go on to be a bust. Hopefully, he plays well and the Giants can have faith in him moving forward.
