If there was any doubt that the New York Giants were at the center of some of the wildest offseason speculation, Daniel Jeremiah just erased it. In his latest mock draft, the NFL Network draft guru threw a curveball the size of MetLife Stadium—mocking two-way superstar Travis Hunter to the Giants at No. 3 overall.
That’s right. No quarterback. No Cam Ward, no Shedeur Sanders. Instead, a cornerback/wide receiver hybrid. And the reason? Because, apparently, the Giants are swinging a trade for Matthew Stafford.
Let’s be clear: the Stafford-to-New-York chatter has been picking up steam, but this is the first time a top draft analyst has outright baked it into a mock draft decision. And the best part? When fans asked why he had the Giants passing on a QB, Jeremiah simply dropped a GIF of Stafford smiling and waving after winning the Super Bowl. Subtle.
So what changed with your giants pick in two weeks? They're desperate for a qb but go hunter? Are they out on Shedur?

Daniel Jeremiah mocks Matthew Stafford to the Giants
Jeremiah explained his reasoning, saying:
"The Giants do their best to make up for letting Saquon Barkley walk in free agency last year by adding a dynamic two-way player in Hunter."
But let’s pump the brakes for a second—this raises way more questions than it answers.
Where is all this smoke coming from? His contract is a mess, and while the Rams might be open to dealing him, they aren’t handing him over for pennies on the dollar. The rumored asking price? Something equivalent to a first-round pick? That’s a massive gamble for a 37-year-old quarterback who has already hinted at retirement once before.
And if the Giants actually pull the trigger, what’s the long-term plan? They’d be committing big money and draft capital to an aging QB, banking on him surviving behind an offensive line that has been a disaster for years. This isn’t the 2021 Rams, where Stafford walked into a perfectly built Super Bowl contender. This is a team that just went 3-14 and has holes everywhere.
Then there’s the Hunter situation. No one is questioning his freakish talent, but what exactly is the Giants' plan? Is he a cornerback? A wide receiver? Both? If he’s a CB, are the Giants really passing on a QB for a defensive back? If he’s a WR, does that change Malik Nabers’ role?
Make no mistake—Hunter is an elite talent, but the bigger story here is Stafford. If the Giants are really passing on a rookie quarterback, it means they’re all-in on a 37-year-old with a limited future—and that’s a move that could either save or sink this front office.
The rumors about the Giants going after Stafford aren’t new, but this latest wrinkle makes it feel more real than ever. Jeremiah isn’t some random internet troll throwing out speculation—when he hints at something, it’s often based on real conversations with NFL personnel departments.
The Athletic’s Dan Duggan even said, “The Giants’ rumored interest in Stafford makes perfect sense for this regime, especially if it’s not all-in on drafting a quarterback with the No. 3 pick (or earlier).”
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Rams view Stafford’s contract situation as “untenable” and that Los Angeles will not let this situation drag out through the spring. Translation? If Stafford is getting moved, it’s happening pretty soon.
If this is the direction the Giants are taking, it’s a win-now move in a relatively wide-open NFC. Stafford instantly raises the floor of this team. Pairing him with Nabers and Hunter could create one of the most electric offenses the Giants have had in years.
Forget about another rookie quarterback project—this would be a proven Super Bowl-winning signal-caller who could mentor a younger guy along the way. If general manager Joe Schoen can pull it off without giving up too much, this could be the move that finally puts the G-Men back on the map.
The Giants might finally have a real quarterback, or they might be setting themselves up for another expensive mistake. Either way, this just got a whole lot more interesting.
