Daniel Jones could have sneaky suitors following release from Giants
By Ryan Heckman
In the same week the New York Giants made a decision everybody and their brother saw coming, they made another one with a bit more finality hinged to it.
Just a few days after opting to bench quarterback Daniel Jones in favor of Tommy DeVito, the Giants have officially decided to release their former franchise quarterback. In a tumultuous week for the veteran, he was seen oddly giving a public goodbye to the Giants on Thursday when speaking to the media.
Many wondered why Jones was offering such an emotional farewell with seven games left to play, and Friday morning, we got our answer.
He knew the end was a whole lot closer than anyone else thought; as in, the very next day. As it turned out, Jones did in fact ask for his release.
So, what's next for the veteran? He'll undoubtedly have some suitors, but let's keep in mind where we're at in the season.
Of course, many of us will try to predict where Jones could land next offseason. But, this season still matters, and there are plenty of clubs who could pursue him as their backup.
Note: Jones must clear waivers and then has the opportunity to sign wherever he feels is the best fit for him. The likelihood any team claims his contract on waivers is as close to zero percent as you can get.
Daniel Jones has the chance to help a team immediately following his release
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers' backup quarterback situation has been an issue for a while now, and with the way Justin Herbert has been banged up in recent years, Jones makes a ton of sense. L.A. signed Taylor Heinicke who became the best backup they've had in a few years, but Jones would be an upgrade.

Not to mention, Jones would get the chance to play under Jim Harbaugh, who may or may not be able to "fix" him. Take that however you want, but the Chargers at least make some sense, here.
Miami Dolphins
Speaking of banged-up quarterbacks, the Miami Dolphins have watched Tua Tagovailoa take far too many hits to his head in recent seasons. Clearly, their backup situation was less than ideal after Tua's latest concussion, and giving Mike McDaniel a dual-threat veteran might just be the ticket if the Dolphins were to make a postseason push and wanted a better no. 2 option.
Los Angeles Rams
Sean McVay is another bright offensive head coach who could be of service to Jones, and at 5-5, the Rams are well within reach of a postseason berth. Matthew Stafford is getting up there in age and, if Los Angeles was serious about making a run, Jones is about as good a backup option as they could ask for right now.
