Welcome to the second edition of my series, Everything’s Van-Fine. With the recent offensive coordinator news out of North Jersey, now felt like the right time to share a few thoughts, especially given the controversy surrounding the selection.
Well, the New York Giants officially have their new offensive coordinator, and it might not be a name many would be thrilled about.
New York is reportedly hiring Matt Nagy after seeing Todd Monken, who was viewed as the likely OC for the Giants (given his connection to John Harbaugh), become the Cleveland Browns head coach. Understandably, fans might not initially be too thrilled with this move, given Nagy's vanilla offensive playcalling style during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
John Harbaugh worked under Andy Reid in Philadelphia, and Harbaugh mentioned in his opening press conference that he sought advice from Reid, who told him, “Change can be good,” after his firing in Baltimore.

Now, Harbaugh turns back to the Andy Reid coaching tree by hiring Matt… https://t.co/v1ykfKMJaE
Giants faithful, believe me when I tell you, just like Harbaugh, Nagy brings the same mindset into the building that Harbaugh does, and that is a winning mentality.
Not here to sell you on Matt Nagy, I’m very skeptical of this hire but he did not call plays in Kansas City the last three years. Andy Reid did.

Nagy spent the previous three seasons with the Chiefs as the offensive coordinator, working under head coach Andy Reid and alongside a quarterback by the name of Patrick Mahomes, who I heard is pretty good. The 47-year-old and New Jersey native has won two Super Bowls in Kansas City and certainly played a key role in their dynasty.
Even though the Chiefs' offense wasn't lighting up the scoreboard during parts of Nagy's tenure as OC, he is a key member of Reid's coaching tree, who will undoubtedly be a Hall of Famer when it is all said and done.
It also doesn't matter that Nagy's offense wasn't scoring much; Mahomes and company were still finding ways to win, which is a far cry from what the G-Men have been doing over the past couple of seasons.

While this hire may have caught Giants fans off guard, Nagy brings a winning mindset and a Super Bowl pedigree to East Rutherford. After years working with Patrick Mahomes, there’s a good chance he can help take Jaxson Dart’s game to the next level next season. At worst, he's a high-floor option who comes with tons of experience.
Everything's Van-Fine. We trust Harbaugh will put this team in the best position to succeed, and he wouldn't have hired Nagy had he thought otherwise.
