Former Giant left New York for Eagles and already regrets every second

Things are going from bad to worse for the former Giants LB.

Unfortunately for New York Giants fans, they never truly got to appreciate what Azeez Ojulari could bring to the defense. The former second-round pick came in hot as a rookie out of Georgia, setting Big Blue's all-time rookie sacks record with eight. But ever since, it's been an unlucky string of injury-riddled seasons for the 25-year-old.

After wrapping up his rookie contract with the G-Men, the disgruntled linebacker took a ride down I-95 for (literal) greener pastures with the Philadelphia Eagles. After watching Saquon Barkley head to the City of Brotherly Love and thrive, Ojulari seemingly thought, "Why not me?" He signed a one-year, $4 million deal in the offseason. Perhaps he'd have been better off staying put or going somewhere different entirely.

Let's just say his training camp left a lot to be desired, ultimately leading to him getting absolutely buried on the depth chart. His camp struggles added up to a healthy scratch on opening night vs the Dallas Cowboys, which tells you everything you need to know about just how much the Eagles regret taking a flyer on the guy.

Former Giants linebacker Azeez Ojulari is in deep trouble with Eagles

The fact that Ojulari was a healthy scratch speaks volumes. That means he is physically so good to go... but the team doesn't want him to take the field. Philly feels like they have a better chance of winning football games without him on the field. That's what we in the biz call: Brutal.

Don't be surprised if this is the beginning of the end for the former Georgia Bulldog. While he did make the Birds' 53-man roster, it's crystal clear the coaching staff is not sold whatsoever on who they thought they were acquiring when they threw him a free agency lifeline.

There were reports the G-Men tried to retain the oft-injured linebacker in free agency, but he opted for (at the time) brighter pastures in Philadelphia. It was rumored he wanted a more prominent role — one not stuck behind Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux. As it turns out, his spurning of Big Blue has really worked in New York's favor.

Who knows if general manager Joe Schoen even targets Chauncey Golston in free agency had they re-signed Ojulari. He sure as you-know-what would have still drafted Abdul Carter, further burying New York's rookie sack record holder, who left only to get buried on another depth chart.

This is a terrible look for Azeez Ojulari. He will have to get in the good graces of the decision-makers ASAP if he wants any shot at reviving his now hanging-on-by-a-thread career. His decision to join the Eagles might ironically be the decision that finally does him in.
