The New York Giants took a huge risk by choosing continuity over fresh ideas in the offseason, as ownership chose to retain both head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen despite many prognosticators out there expecting some sort of regime change.
Fans who wanted to see heads roll after a year that very well may end up being the worst individual season in Giants history might not be as sorely disappointed this time around, as Daboll is one bad year away from earning a pink slip.
CBS Sports listed the Giants' leader as the coach with the hottest seat in the league. Unsurprisingly, with the Giants projected to be one of the worst teams in the league once again, it seems unlikely that Daboll ends up lasting for much longer without some intervention from up above.
CBS has Daboll getting axed after four seasons in charge with the Giants. Even after picking up a few much-heralded young players in some strong draft class, the Giants' recent run of futility is so sharp that the organization might have no choice but to wipe the slate clean.
CBS Sports predicts Giants may fire Brian Daboll after 2025
Daboll was heralded for having won a playoff game with Daniel Jones as his quarterback, but just about nothing has gone right since. Daboll has gone 9-25 over the last two seasons, all while rivals Washington and Philadelphia have established themselves as contenders for a Super Bowl in 2025-26.
The Giants' quarterback room consists of a veteran trying to prove he still has it in Russell Wilson, a high-voltage backup in Jameis Winston, and 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart. It will take a masterclass in coaching and development to make sure that all three of these players maximize their potential.
Not only were the Giants one of the worst teams in the league last year and setting up for a merry-go-round situation at quarterback, but they also have the misfortune of playing the hardest schedule in the entire league. Daboll getting any sort of playoff push out of this roster under these circumstances would be a minor miracle.
