There's always a random role player on a rival club who, for some odd reason, got the best of your favorite team. For the New York Giants, that has been Boston Scott, a name the casual football viewer probably never even heard of.

Scott, AKA the "Giant Killer," needs no introduction around these parts. The veteran running back tortured Big Blue Nation in six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2018 through 2023 — until now. At long last, he will no longer be a thorn in New York's side after reportedly announcing his retirement from the NFL.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Boston. Finally, Giants fans don't have to worry about Scott anymore after he saved New York from his reign of terror over them.

Ex-Eagles RB Boston Scott puts Giants fans out of misery with retirement announcement

As the Giants learned the hard way, Scott's nickname was earned — not given. He hit a different gear when they were on the schedule. A good chunk of his career rushing output came against New York.

Let's compare Scott's stats versus the Giants to his numbers as a pro (excluding playoffs):

Boston Scott vs. the Giants

Boston Scott Career Stats

10 games

75 games

90 carries

302 carries

422 rushing yards (4.69/attempt)

1,295 rushing yards (4.3/attempt)

10 touchdowns (nine rushing, one receiving)

17 touchdowns (16 rushing, one receiving)

17 receptions (23 targets)

71 receptions (90 targets)

222 receiving yards

566 receiving yards

Nearly one-third of Scott's production across a half-decade-plus span came when facing the Giants. Talk about an unbelievable feat. It's hard to imagine that being remotely possible, and yet, here we are.

For context, Scott failed to reach 200 total rushing yards when matched up with any other squad. The Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys, another pair of NFC East foes, were the next-closest at 178 and 156, respectively. He was clearly motivated by seeing the Giants' logo opposite him.

Why Scott wasn't able to channel the energy he conjured up whenever the Giants were on tap remains unclear. The 30-year-old hasn't been able put his finger on it himself when asked about the trend. Nevertheless, folks in New York are just glad the nightmare officially comes to an end.

Jokes aside, against all odds, Scott hangs up the cleats after a successful run in the league. He came in as an undersized sixth-round back from a mid-major school (Louisiana Tech) and netted roughly $11.5 million in earnings. Not too shabby.
