The New York Giants have made their fair share of unpopular wide receiver moves or dealt with their fair share of divas at the position, but eventually there's a line you can never come back from. And thankfully, world-class talents Odell Beckham Jr. or Malik Nabers have never come close to that line.
Meanwhile, former San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk is playing jump rope with it. He signed an extension worth $30 million annually two years ago. Since then, he's played in just seven games, missed all of 2025, and is becoming such a headache that everyone is sick of hearing about him.
Aiyuk has been in a months-long stalemate with the 49ers, where neither side refuses to cave. He's been expected to be cut or traded for months now, and his off-field actions have complicated matters. But thankfully, the Giants know better than to get involved with the issues that come with a talented WR.
However, an NFC East rival isn't as smart. The Washington Commanders seem to be the most likely destination once the 28-year-old gets cut. And after a video on his Instagram story in which Aiyuk was heard saying, "Go Commanders," it appears as though reuniting with Adam Peters in Washington is his preferred destination.
Brandon Aiyuk could soon be playing against the Giants twice a year
The Aiyuk saga has gotten so bad that even his former teammates are getting sick of what's unfolding. During a podcast with Barstool Sports, George Kittle made sure to warn the Commanders (or any team) that pursues his former teammate after all of the distractions he provided in 2025.
“You guys have fun with that, I guess," Kittle said (h/t the Pardon My Take podcast). … "You have fun with all that comes with it.”
And Kittle said that to a Commanders fan, no less. Practically everyone associated with the Arizona State product and the 49ers has criticized his behavior over the last year, and the more time that passes, the worse it looks. Aiyuk can't hold onto his 1,300-yard season in 2023 for any longer.
Big Blue knows better than to throw stones after the last couple of seasons, but this is an exception. Every Giants fan should be laughing at the idea of Aiyuk facing them twice a season, because it's not really a secret that he stopped caring about his career once he got a payday.
It's moves like this that are the reason the Commanders are the ugly step child of the NFC East. Needing WR help is one thing, but hearing everyone speak candidly about the rollercoaster that is the Aiyuk experience is proof New York is better off steering clear and allowing Washington to slip up.
Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin may not be franchise-altering talents in the receiver room, but at least the New York Giants are smart enough to know not to touch Brandon Aiyuk with a 10-foot pole. He's talented, but not talented enough to warrant the baggage he currently comes with.
