No thanks.

The New York Giants are looking for a new head coach. The good news is that the Giants' job will be looked at as an enticing one given the talent they have on the roster and fans should prepare themselves for all sorts of names to be thrown out as potential candidates.

One name that hasn't been thrown out much but was suggested as a potential sneaky option by Dan Patrick is former Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. While appearing on The Dan Patrick Show, Patrick asked Garrett if he was done with coaching. Garrett gave a lot of word salad with his answer but ultimately settled on he'd return to coaching if the fit was right.

"I love the job I'm in. I'm really fortunate. But I was really fortunate to play for a long time and coach for a long time and I can say this to you honestly that I've loved every part of it. I love coaching football. I loved to be a position coach, a coordinator, and a head coach. So, you know, if that opportunity presents itself in a way that seems like it's attractive, sure I'd look at it."

After Garrett's interview was over, Patrick then talked to the audience about how the Giants' head coach opening is what prompted him to ask the former Cowboys head coach about a potential return.

"Yeah, it just dawned on me that he probably still wants to coach. Relatively young, maybe an opportunity. And you know, it dawned on me with the Giants opening there and I thought, I wonder... you know, maybe he hasn't been contacted but you have other people who have maybe been contacted on your behalf."

Giants fans hope team stays far, far away from hiring Jason Garrett

On paper, you look at Garrett's head coaching tenure and you might not think he'd look like too bad of an option. He finished his 10-year stint with the Cowboys with a winning record, going 85-67 and only recording one losing season during that time.

When you actually break it down, however, it's an entirely different story. Garrett probably wouldn't have lasted as long as he did with any other team due to the Cowboys mostly underwhelming with the talent they had during that time.

The big reason why Giants fans want nothing to do with Garrett returning to the franchise is that he had a two-year run as the team's offensive coordinator in 2020 and 2021 and it was a disaster. The finished second-to-last in points scored in both of Garrett's years as the OC so no, this is not someone the fanbase would be happy about bringing in to lead the team in a bigger role.

Hopefully, Garrett stays with NBC or, at the very least, hopefully he isn't even considered as an option by Schoen and the front office.
