Giants get a huge gift in 2025 NFL Draft order after Week 14 loss
By Ryan Heckman
Going into their Week 14 matchup with the New Orleans Saints, the New York Giants opted to roll with quarterback Drew Lock, hoping he'd be able to help the likes of Brian Daboll steer away from the hot seat.
In the end, the Saints stifled New York and sent them packing with a record of 2-11 after this one. For fans purely hoping for a better draft pick, this kept the Giants on pace. Yet, the loss to the Saints wasn't the biggest factor in changing draft positioning on Sunday.
After last week, New York was sitting at no. 3 overall behind the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars, each with the same record. In Week 14, the Raiders lost yet again, this time to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, the Jaguars decided to take themselves out of the running for that top selection as they defeated a division rival. Jacksonville beat the Tennessee Titans, improving to a record of 3-10 on the season. Just that lone victory sent Jacksonville from the top selection all the way down to no. 5 overall.
The Giants are one step closer to their next franchise quarterback
Let's check in on the most recent draft order for next year, focusing in on the top eight picks.
1. Las Vegas Raiders (2-11)
2. New York Giants (2-11)
3. New England (3-10)
4. Carolina Panthers (3-10)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-10)
6. Tennessee Titans (3-10)
7. New York Jets (3-10)
8. Cleveland Browns (3-10)
More Giants news:
After making the decision to move on from quarterback Daniel Jones, the Giants officially made it known that they had an opening under center. This team is going to be in search of a franchise quarterback, but the upcoming draft class may only have one of those made obvious.
Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is the closest to a sure thing in the upcoming class, with other prospects like Cam Ward, Quinn Ewers, Jalen Milroe, among others, possessing some major question marks hovering over their pro futures.
At the moment, you'd have to believe the Raiders would take Sanders no. 1 overall, which could mean the Giants then go with his teammate, wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter. That would make for an entertaining first round, with a pair of teammates going no. 1 and no. 2.
Now, is Sanders the best player in the draft? One might argue as much, but you could also argue that to be untrue. Yet, the desire for a franchise quarterback, these days, is often too high to pass up the best prospect at the position.
Next week the Giants get the Ravens while the Raiders take on the Falcons.
