The trade chatter around New York Giants edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux never rests. Every week, a new rumor or suggestion surfaces, urging the G-Men to move on from the former top-five draft pick. Of course, the Giants have made it clear that they don't plan on trading Thibodeaux any time soon.

They've made no such commitment to Deonte Banks.

The fourth-year cornerback has fallen down the depth chart after failing to perform in 2025. New York has added multiple corners this offseason, opening the door to a potential trade for the former first-round pick. The Giants may not be able to get much back in a Banks trade, but another NFL team may be willing to take a chance on his athleticism.

Deonte Banks could be Giants' most likely trade candidate

Banks was always going to take some time to develop in the NFL. He showcased an exceptional combination of speed, size, and length as a prospect, but he was still raw in his technique. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to adjust to the NFL in his first three seasons.

Since 2023, Banks has allowed 14 touchdowns and has been penalized 21 times. Both numbers lead the team during that stretch. While his athleticism shows on the field, he has made too many mistakes to remain a primary part of the rotation moving forward.

The Giants responded to their weakness at the position by adding both Greg Newsome II and rookie Colton Hood this offseason.

Now, Banks is set to enter training camp as the Giants' fourth outside cornerback, behind Paulson Adebo, Newsome, and Hood. He should still be part of the defensive rotation, but barring a resurgence in training camp, he won't be a starter.

He's entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Giants likely won't bring him back when his deal expires. So, why not explore the trade market before the season starts?

Banks wouldn't command any more than a Day Three draft pick. As much potential as he has, offers will be based on what he's done on the field so far in his career.

Still, there could be a cornerback-needy team willing to take a chance on his upside. Teams like the Miami Dolphins or the San Francisco 49ers could add him to their roster and see if he can develop in their system. If he's not staying in New York, a trade is worth exploring.
