How do we feel about this?

The NFL's legal tampering period began on Monday, and the New York Giants got right to work.

One of the priorities this offseason was going to be on addressing the cornerback position, and the Giants did exactly that within the first hour.

The Giants agreed to a contract with free agent cornerback Paulson Adebo

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Giants have agreed to a contract with former New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo. It is a 3-year deal worth $30 million for the former Stanford product.

The deal between Adebo and the Giants is one that comes with a risk for multiple reasons.

First and foremost, Adebo only played in seven games for the Saints last year because of a tough injury he suffered. On October 17 last season, Adebo broke his femur.

That's a serious injury to come back from, and although it's not a major ligament, Adebo did break the biggest and strongest bone in his body. Getting back to full strength will continue to take time.

This is also a risk due to the fact that Adebo has been up and down over his career when it comes to coverage. 2023 was his best year and saw him earn a Pro Football Focus grade of 80.5 in coverage. That's a stellar number, but one that dwindled to 63.9 in his seven games last year.

We won't even talk about the abysmal 48.6 grade he earned in 2022.

The thing is, Adebo is a risk-taking player, so this all kind of makes sense. In seven games, before breaking his leg last year, he had already tallied three interceptions and 10 pass breakups. He was on pace for a career year in terms of ball production and was allowing an opposing quarterback rating of 67.0 (again courtesy of PFF).

On the surface, a lot of these numbers look good. But, he'll have to hone in a bit more. Adebo might have been on pace for a career year in terms of interceptions and pass breakups, but he was also on pace to allow the most yards-after-catch, and by a mile.

Prior to 2024, he had allowed a career-most 238 yards after the catch in 2023. In seven games last season, Adebo was already up to 180.
