The Giants tried to get wide receiver Gunner Olszewski to throw the ball back to Winston on a trick play, but Detroit was swarming and Winston was covered. Somehow, Olszewski managed to evade pressure and uncork a throw better than most of Russell Wilson's tosses this year.
Winston looked like a viable NFL wide receiver on this play, catching the pass and eluding defenders on his way to a brilliant 33-yard touchdown that put the upset-minded Giants up 27-17 against the Lions. Kafka is showing signs he might have the offensive creativity this team needs.

Winston has completed 13 of his 22 passes for 274 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Wan'dale Robinson has been the biggest benefactor of Kafka's new aerial circus this week, as he has eight catches and 153 yards to his name as he beats up on Detroit's defense.
Kafka is taking advantage of Winston's arm and desire to reel off big plays against a Lions team that is still suffering from a lack of depth and quality in the secondary. Winston is showing what the offense can look like when someone of Jaxson Dart's ilk returns to the starting lineup.
Kafka needs to show that he can not only win games he isn't supposed to as he tries to make a case for the interim head coach tag to be removed, but he also must prove his creative offensive mind has enough juice behind it to give the front office confidence he can get the most out of Dart.
After lighting up the Lions defense on the road with a turnover-prone backup quarterback in Winston at the sticks, plays like that marvelous wide receiver pass are indicative of a coach who knows how to press the right buttons when it comes to building a promising offense.
