Enough was enough.

Aaron Rodgers had held up the New York Giants' offseason plans for far too long. On the same day he met with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Giants moved forward without him.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Giants are signing veteran quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year deal worth $8 million.

It's a smart move to sign Winston ahead of other interested teams. He joins Tommy DeVito in the quarterback room, with one final spot potentially reserved for a rookie.

Giants push forward without Aaron Rodgers and find their veteran quarterback in Jameis Winston

While the Giants are reportedly still in the mix for Rodgers, we can almost certainly forget about it. Rodgers took a step closer to signing with the Steelers by meeting with them on Friday, and New York's move for Winston likely slams the door shut.

It leaves the Giants in an exciting position.

Winston can take the reins of the offense while the team brings along a young quarterback in the draft. Shedeur Sanders developing behind Winston for a year sounds like a pretty solid plan, and it's entirely possible after this move.

Turnovers are unquestionably a problem for Winston, who has thrown 111 interceptions in 105 career games, but there's no denying his ability to make big-time plays. The former first-overall pick also has 154 touchdown passes to his name.

Just as importantly, the Giants are adding a great person to their locker room.

It's Rodgers' loss. He misses the opportunity to lead the Giants' resurgence while building an unstoppable connection with Malik Nabers. It would've given him a perfect chance to stick it to the New York Jets at the same time.

It's now Steelers or bust for Rodgers, while the Giants move into their future with Winston and potentially a rookie.
