The New York Giants used the 105th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to grab Cam Skattebo, a bruising, do-it-all back out of Arizona State who looks tailor-made for New York’s rotation.
Skattebo brings physicality, versatility, and a track record of production that turned heads in the Pac-12. His 2024 season was jaw-dropping — 1,711 rushing yards, 24 total touchdowns, and enough highlight-reel moments to make him a legitimate threat to challenge Tyrone Tracy Jr. for the starting job right away.
At 23 years old, Skattebo is younger than most of the players he’ll line up against. He’s also younger than most of the players fans associate with recent NFL greatness. That became very clear during a recent guest spot on the St. Brown Brothers Podcast — where Skattebo’s lack of NFL history knowledge quietly aged an entire generation of football fans in real time.
Watch Cam Skattebo try (and fail) to identify NFL stars from the 2000s
In a segment designed to test his NFL recall, Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown showed Skattebo pictures of former NFL stars and asked him to identify them. It went downhill fast.
First up: Calvin Johnson. One of the most dominant receivers in league history. Skattebo squinted at the screen and gave a defeated, “I got no idea who this is.” A stunned Amon-Ra fired back, “There’s no way. When were you born?” Skattebo replied, “2002.”
The rest of the names didn’t go much better: Brett Favre? No clue. Golden Tate? Nothing. Marques Colston? Kam Chancellor? Darren Sproles? Skat needed lifelines on every single one. The clip is light-hearted and funny, but if you grew up watching those guys play on Sundays, it’s also... a little soul-crushing and a bit deflating. Where does the time go?
It was a "bring out the walkers" moment for several fans for sure. Some players like Tate and Colston would be unrecognizable to many fans, but Megatron and Favre are two of the most iconic players in the sport's history.
Fortunately, they didn't trip him up with any former Giants players, but he might want to take a look at some yearbooks sooner rather than later to make sure he doesn't get as stumped again. It'd be a tough look to not recognize some of Big Blue's greats.
Of course, Skattebo’s job is to break tackles, not memorize depth charts from the mid-2000s of other teams. But if he becomes a star in New York, you can bet there’ll be a generation of rookies one day who don’t know his name either. Circle of life.
