It's not even training camp but new Giants signing already has one foot out the door

As the New York Giants open training camp, fans are buzzing and for good reason. There is more optimism, this year, than in recent ones. A lot of it has to do with the offensive side of the ball and excitement around a quarterback (competition?).

In that same breath as we talk about Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart, we must also mention their pass catchers. And that, folks, is our subject for today. Toward the back end of the depth chart, you'll find recent 2025 signing Lil'Jordan Humphrey, but his chances of earning a permanent role were dwindling the moment he signed.

Humphrey signed only back in May and comes into a room with the top three, at his position, likely already cemented.

Lil'Jordan Humphrey may not make it out of Giants training camp and onto the final roster

Let's first look at the top of the depth chart. Obviously, Malik Nabers is the go-to guy. But, Darius Slayton and Wan'Dale Robinson are more than likely the next men up.

Assuming the Giants want to keep six receivers, it would make sense for 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt to be right there as well. Hyatt has already formed a connection with Russell Wilson in the early stages of the offseason, and a recent draft pick of that type of capital likely isn't going anywhere.

Free agent signing Zach Pascal seems to be a candidate to make the team as well. He's a fairly-reliable option to keep around.

So, that's five right there. And then, it should end up being between Humphrey and Ihmir Smith-Marsette for that next spot barring any emergence from either an undrafted free agent or another lesser-known veteran like Bryce Ford-Wheaton.

Humphrey actually caught a career-best 31 passes last year in Denver, but offers no special teams upside. Meanwhile, Smith-Marsette gives the Giants a potential return option and is probably better suited in that realm.

This could come down to which specialty the coaching staff prefers, but Humphrey is already real close to being off the roster.
