It took Odell Beckham Jr. one practice to make Giants fans dream again

Ask a Giants fan how they feel about Odell Beckham Jr., and you are bound to get a million different responses. They range from "I never want him to play in a Giants uniform ever again," to "I'd name my firstborn child after him if New York brings him back."

I won't put too much stock in the first day of training camp, but if I were to do so, I'd definitely highlight OBJ as a standout performer. New York dove headfirst into the Beckham frenzy when they signed him to a one-year, prove-it deal back in early June. He impressed in his workout, carried that momentum into OTAs, and entered training camp with one final hurdle standing between him and the 53-man roster.

For the sake of drinking the Kool-Aid, if Day 1 had anything to say about it, I'd say he's off to a really good start. Even general manager Joe Schoen has been impressed with the 33-year-old so far. Right before practice started, Schoen told reporters how good OBJ has looked since they brought him in:

"He can still get open. He's still got really good hands. Catches the ball well. ... He was in really good shape for the conditioning test. Excited to see what he looks like with more time around him."

However, hearing about how he's been doing and actually seeing it with your own eyes are two very different things. Thankfully, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic captured this Louvre-worthy video of OBJ and Leek working perfectly in sync through a passing drill:

But it wasn't just one drill that had Giants fans feeling like it was 2016; it was his entire day. Here he is below, getting some light work in with Jaxson Dart in another drill:

It's not that he was out there looking exactly like vintage Odell, but seeing him on the field and working through drills was a sight to behold. I guess you could say it inspired hope. His all-around good day also caught the attention of SNY's Connor Hughes, who noted, "Still weird seeing him in the blue again. He looks good, too. As Joe Schoen said — he can still get open."

But putting aside what it means to the fans, how does Dart feel about having OBJ on the team?

"I'm definitely excited about O...he's about the teammates, the guys around him. I've loved having him here so far. He's a great guy, a great leader."

Whether you are already planning the jersey purchase or still holding onto some healthy skepticism, you can’t deny the energy in the air right now.

It is only Day 1, and we have a long way to go before Sunday football actually matters, but for at least one afternoon, it felt like the magic was back in East Rutherford -- err, West Virginia(?). If OBJ can keep stacking good days, there are going to be a lot of little Odells running around the tri-state area. Buckle up, Giants fans -- belief is officially back.
