Honestly, what were the Indianapolis Colts expecting? After six years of wildly inconsistent quarterback play with the New York Giants, they still made Danny Dimes a priority free agency signing.
It was as puzzling then as it is now. His addition always said more about Indy's feelings towards Anthony Richardson than anything Jones-related, and training camp all but confirmed it.

Richardson has been in the NFL for two seasons. The Colts drafted him fourth overall in 2023. In a Benjamin-Button-like parallel, Richardson seems to be getting worse the more he plays in the NFL. If Daniel Jones is considered a bust, Richardson might be giving him a run for his money. He's completed just 50.6% of his passes, thrown 13 interceptions, fumbled 12 times, and finished with only 11 touchdowns in 15 games. Not exactly franchise cornerstone-esque.
Naturally, they turned to Daniel Jones to be their potential starter... as one does.
In an update that will shock absolutely zero Giants fans, Jones didn't have the best first day of training camp. In fact, the troubles that plagued him in East Rutherford are already surfacing, and it's not surprising in the slightest.
If only the Colts had asked Giants fans before signing Danny Dimes
During a seven-on-seven drill, Jones’ turnover troubles reared their ugly heads again by doing too much and forcing a bad decision for no reason. The seven-year vet was late on a short pass to Josh Downs on the sideline:
#Colts CB Kenny Moore II just picked QB Daniel Jones in 7-on-7.

Jones himself described the throw as a “bad decision,” which is great in hindsight — but Giants fans know that line all too well. It’s usually delivered postgame. After another loss.
Is anyone truly shocked that he underthrew a short pass that got jumped and picked off? Maybe it’s surprising it happened on literally the first day of training camp, but everyone knew it was coming eventually.
Luckily, Big Blue has moved on. Long gone are the days of scrambling for a quarterback plan and flying by the seat of their pants. 2025 is a new year. Out are Jones, Drew Lock, and Tim Boyle. In are Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart.
On Day 1 of Giants training camp, Russ connected with superstar receiver Malik Nabers early and often. Dart did exactly what head coach Brian Daboll asked of him: put in the work and get better.
If the Colts were hoping for a fresh start, Day 1 made it clear they might have bitten off more than they could chew.
Welcome to the Daniel Jones experience. Giants fans could’ve warned them. Meanwhile, New York finally has a quarterback room with structure, upside, and a plan. Indianapolis intentionally walked straight into the same storm Big Blue just escaped. We'll see how the rest of camp shakes out, but early returns aren't necessarily encouraging.
