That was not fun at all. New York Giants fans cannot catch a break as they dropped their Week 2 matchup on Monday Night Football against the Rams, with Jaxson Dart, Andrew Thomas, Brian Burns, and Malik Nabers all suffering injuries.
While Nabers returned to the game, Thomas and Burns did not after suffering injuries late in the fourth quarter. Dart, meanwhile, exited in the first quarter after he was sandwiched in the pocket by two Rams defenders and went down, grabbing his knee.
Luckily, Dart was on the sideline in street clothes, which had Big Blue fans hopeful; however, after further testing, Ian Rapoport reported that the 23-year-old will get surgery and miss the remainder of the season. Jameis Winston is now in position to lead the offense, and he knows how important his role is with Dart sidelined.

Jameis met with the media after New York’s 28-6 loss to the Rams, and when asked about Dart’s injury and his role moving forward, he said:

Winston struggled against the Rams' defense, which limited the team to just 182 total yards. The veteran backup struggled to do much of anything once Dart left, finishing the day going 11 of 27 for 111 yards passing, with an interception. Jameis will have to be much better going forward with Dart sidelined.
It felt like once Dart went down with his injury, the energy and confidence were sucked out of the Giants, and nobody played up to standard. That goes for both the offense and defense.
Luckily, the G-Men now enter what looks like one of the more manageable stretches of their schedule, as they will face the Titans, Cardinals, Commanders, and Saints, and Jameis should have more time to prepare for those matchups if Dart remains sidelined.
However, if these past two weeks taught us anything about the NFL, it’s that upsets are real, and you can’t take any opponent lightly. The Saints upset the Ravens, the Browns defeated the Buccaneers, and the Chargers are 0-2 with losses to the Raiders and Cardinals.
The Giants clearly have confidence in Jameis not only as a veteran leader off the field, but on the field as well, and as a mentor to Dart, as they signed him to a two-year, $13 million contract extension before the season began.
This isn’t unfamiliar territory for the 32-year-old, who’s now in his 12th NFL season and has plenty of experience as both a starter and backup across four different teams.
Nobody said that this road would be easy in year one of the John Harbaugh era, but if there’s anything Big Blue’s new head coach has shown us so far, it’s that he will do what’s best to put the team in position to win, and right now all eyes are on Famous Jameis while Dart is injured.
