With each passing day, we're getting closer and closer to the New York Giants kicking off their 2026 campaign. Although things haven't been pretty for Big Blue since their last playoff berth in 2022, there are still plenty of reasons for fans to be excited. John Harbaugh comes in replacing Brian Daboll as head coach, Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo should return from injury, and, of course, there's Jaxson Dart.

Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon says in his article that Dart is the most important second-year player on the Giants roster. Gagnon is spot on with this opinion. Dart is the guy they traded back into the first round to get. He is who John Mara, Joe Schoen and the rest of the Giants’ brass want to be the franchise guy. He's the reason Harbaugh took the Giants' job to begin with.

There's an argument to be made that Abdul Carter is the most important young guy after how back and forth fans viewed his rookie campaign and how abysmal the defense was. However, Carter won't have as much pressure as Dart will have. How Dart adjusts to teams having a full offseason to prepare for him will ultimately determine how the season goes. for Big Blue.

The Giants can't afford Dart having a sophomore slump

As is the case with most successful rookie quarterbacks, the opposition's preparation for them in their second season leads to a "Sophomore Slump" for young gunslingers. This cannot be the case for Dart and the Gaints. In fact, they're expecting it not to be.

On paper, everything is there for the Giants to be successful this season. A head coach who knows how to win, an offensive line pick in Francis Mauigoa who should bring the average offensive line to a Top 10 unit in the league, an elite rushing defense, and new weapons on the offensive side. This team should contend for a playoff spot, and it'll fall on No. 6's shoulders to get them there.

If Dart is the guy fans, coaches, and executives think he is, this should be no problem. But again, that's the price of being deemed the franchise guy; it all comes down to how you play. Dart isn't only the most important second-year guy on the roster; he's the most important player on the Giants.

This team goes as its quarterback goes.
