We've officially made it! The New York Giants play football this week as they prepare to head down to the nation's capital to take on their divisional rival, the Washington Commanders.
The G-Men significantly improved their roster this offseason, meaning Big Blue fans can expect a massive improvement from last season. There's no doubt that the Commanders will be a tough matchup, coming off an NFC Championship run last season, where they finished as the conference's runner-up.
A significant factor in Washington's success in 2024 was rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who earned a Pro Bowl nod and ultimately finished as the Offensive Rookie of the Year last season. All eyes will be on Daniels to see if they can replicate his impressive rookie campaign, and the Giants' defense will have to be ready on Sunday.
Jayden Daniels could be a nightmare for the Giants defense in Week 1
Daniels finished with a 69 percent completion rate, throwing 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns, along with 891 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. He'll have big shoes to fill to meet these expectations again in year two, but he did add some resources to help him.
The Commanders are a run-first offense, and they upgraded their offensive line in a big way this offseason with the addition of five-time Pro Bowler tackle Laremy Tunsil and Pro Bowl center Tyler Biadasz. They also added former All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who they can pair with Terry McLaurin, which will help their passing game.
Daniels has also had the Giants' number in the two games he played against them last year. The reigning OROY completed 38 of his 51 passes for 435 yards and also had two touchdowns. Needless to say, he'll have Big Blue's defense on its toes come Sunday.
The Giants' defense will be tested early in this Week 1 matchup. Still, their secondary has significantly improved with the additions of Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland. The addition of Abdul Carter has also upgraded their pass rush. If all goes well on Sunday, this defense could create chaos for Jayden Daniels and Co.
Not to mention, Giants fans will be excited to see their star wide receiver Malik Nabers go up against his former college quarterback, which will make for an even more eventful Week 1 divisional matchup.
Daniels gave Big Blue and the rest of the league a taste of what he can accomplish at this level, so as long as the Giants are prepared, they could turn some heads on Sunday and upset the Commanders.
