Going into the 2026 NFL season, every New York Giants fan knew the secondary was going to be a big issue for this defense. Through two weeks, those concerns appear to be valid. The cornerback room has been riddled with injuries and Tyler Nubin hasn't quite made the leap people were expecting.
However, one veteran appears to to be flourishing in defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson's system.
Jevon Holland has two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in the team's first two games. He already has better numbers in these categories than he did in all of 2025. It has been a complete turnaround from what was a less-than-impressive first year in the Meadowlands.
Forcing turnovers hasn't been the only improvement Holland has shown this season. He’s also looked to have made a big leap in his coverage. In 2025, Holland allowed a 51.4 completion percentage when targeted. In 2026, that number is down to 33. 3 percent. Yes, it's a small sample size, but it's encouraging to see nonetheless.

Jaxson Dart's injury undoubtedly took the wind out of the team's sails, but Holland continued to play quality football. His effort Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams kept the team afloat for as long as possible, but in the end, wasn't enough. However, Holland showed the leadership this squad will need going forward.
With Dart out for the season, and Brian Burns seemingly out for at least a few weeks, this locker room will have to look inward to band together.
The season took a hit, but it isn't over and it's up to the players to keep the belief alive so it isn't just another lost season of Giants football. This is Holland’s chance to not only be a leader on the field, but also in the locker room.
Of course, so much of the focus surrounding Big Blue this week has been on Dart's injury and how the team recovers from it, but Holland's improvements shouldn't go unnoticed.
It's not the adversity, it's how you respond to it, and this Giants team now faces adversity head on. If they follow the lead Holland set with his play Monday night, this will still be a captivating season for the team and the fans. If Holland not only continues his elite play, but is also a catalyst for a solid first year under John Harbaugh, he'll be a guy the G-Men need to keep around for a long, long time.
