The New York Giants have been busy this offseason, and one of general manager Joe Schoen's best signings in free agency was bringing in former Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland.

The Giants signed Holland to a three-year, $45.3 million contract, filling a major void left by Xavier McKinney’s departure. Now, Big Blue can pair the 25-year-old with Tyler Nubin in their much-improved secondary.

During his tenure with the Dolphins, Holland played in 60 games, totaling 301 tackles, five sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, five interceptions, 25 passes defended, and one touchdown. He impressed in Miami and now gets a shot on an ascending Giants defense.

Holland recently appeared on Breakin' House Rules with NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe and media personality Andre "Tranquilo" Dunand. The veteran safety discussed why he chose the Giants in free agency and credited Kayvon Thibodeaux for recruiting him to New York. Holland and KT were teammates at Oregon in 2019 and have remained close ever since.

Holland also revealed that he consulted with McKinney before signing his contract. The former Giants safety spoke highly of the organization and encouraged Holland to join Big Blue. This is particularly interesting, considering McKinney left the Giants in free agency last year to sign with the Green Bay Packers, where he became a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro.

The Giants also received a third-round pick (No. 99 overall) in this year's NFL Draft as compensation for McKinney’s departure, giving Schoen two third-round picks to work with. He can either hold onto them or use them as trade assets to move up or down in the draft—possibly for a top quarterback prospect.

For all the talk about the Giants' struggles in free agency, landing Holland was a clear win for Schoen and his staff. He’s not just a talented playmaker—he’s a leader who adds stability to a secondary that desperately needed it. Pairing him with Nubin gives the Giants a young, versatile safety duo that could anchor the back end of the defense for years to come.

With new additions like Paulson Adebo at cornerback and a bunch of new depth pieces, the Giants have quietly put together a unit that should be much more competitive in 2025.

McKinney and Thibodeaux deserve credit for helping bring Holland to East Rutherford. If Schoen is looking for extra help in the front office, he might want to consider bringing these guys in as recruiters for next year’s free agency.
