The New York Giants are looking to make a splash move now that they have brought John Harbaugh to town. The collaboration between he and Joe Schoen is off to a strong start, which means that Big Blue could be a key player in the offseason action, especially once the phone starts ringing on trades.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Giants are kicking the tires on the trade market for Chicago Bears star linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who the Bears gave permission to seek a trade late last week. If he's not dealt, odds are he'll be a likely cap casualty who they can sign in free agency anyhow.
"One player who has strong trade value and a decent chance to be dealt is Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. The Titans, Raiders and Giants are among teams interested in high-end linebackers, and they like Edmunds, who's only 27 despite eight years in the league."Jeremy Fowler
Fowler's words are noteworthy because of a very notable connection between him and Joe Schoen. Schoen was the assistant GM in Buffalo when they traded up to draft Edmunds in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, so a reunion with an executive he knows very well could be intriguing to him.
The Giants are one of three teams who could be interested in trading for Tremaine Edmunds
By the looks of it, it seems like the Giants are preparing to release Bobby Okereke this offseason, which could see them attempt to replace him with Edmunds. The 27-year-old is one of the better linebackers in football, so while many Giants fans may not agree, this is an upgrade for the defense.
In 13 games for the Bears in 2025, the Virginia Tech product logged 112 total tackles, a sack, four interceptions, nine pass breakups, three tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery. He has also surpassed 100 total tackles in all eight seasons of his career, proving he's a model of consistency.
The two-time Pro Bowler is a freak athlete at the linebacker position who knows how to make plays all over the field, but is incredibly slow at getting to the football at times. The other issue is that since the G-Men don't have a third-round pick in the 2026 Draft, giving up a fourth-rounder for him is very bold, especially when they can draft a star linebacker in April.
With new DC Dennard Wilson coming in, the Giants would be smart to rid themselves of any reminders of the Stranger Things-like nightmare that was the Brian Daboll and Shane Bowen era in New York. And while Okereke has been great, it's hard to deny that Edmunds would be even better.
And per Fowler's report, all they have to do to make a deal happen is fend off the Raiders and Titans, Schoen and Harbaugh should know what needs to be done.
