Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 30 years, you’ve probably heard of the trading card game Pokémon. If you haven't, it’s a strategy game where trainers collect creatures called Pokémon, build teams, and battle other trainers to become the very best, like no one ever was.
The whole idea is pretty simple: Gotta catch ’em all.
And no one is taking the “gotta catch ’em all” approach more seriously than Giants head coach John Harbaugh, who’s been collecting safeties in free agency like Pokémon cards.
Harby has apparently taken the Dane Belton loss pretty hard. The 25-year-old spurned Big Blue, signing a one-year deal with the crosstown afterthought known as Gang Green. And now it looks like the 63-year-old has made it his mission to never miss out on another safety again. At least, that's what it looks like.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, New York has signed former Miami Dolphins safety Elijah Campbell to a one-year deal, adding another defensive back to his growing collection:
Former Dolphins free agent safety Elijah Campbell is signing a one-year deal with the New York Giants, per agents Drew Rosenhaus and Shawn O’Dare.

John Harbaugh adds safety Elijah Campbell to his Pokédex
Campbell is the third safety New York has signed since the legal tampering window opened on Monday. The 30-year-old joins former Baltimore Ravens safety Ar’Darius Washington and former San Francisco 49er (and Giant) Jason Pinnock.
Campbell isn’t exactly coming in to compete for a starting job. The seven-year pro has spent most of his career on special teams, logging the majority of his snaps in the kicking game while bouncing around the back end of the secondary when needed.
That’s likely the role waiting for him in East Rutherford, too. However, if he does see some action in the secondary, he's been described as having a ball-hawk mentality -- a highly instinctive and technically sound player with excellent ball skills and closing speed.
Whether Campbell actually sees any snaps on defense remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Harby is doing his best at building out his Pokémon deck, collecting as many options as possible and figuring out the rest later.
So, let's officially add Campbell to the collection:

When it comes to defensive backs this offseason, the Giants’ head coach clearly has one philosophy in mind: Gotta catch ’em all.
