John Harbaugh continues to make his rounds as the 21st head coach of the New York Football Giants. He and the club's brain trust checked in from the annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis to discuss several burning offseason question.
More specifically, Harbaugh was asked about the Giants' big three of free agents, wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson, cornerback Cor'Dale Flott and right tackle Jermaine Eluemanor. And by the sound of it, New York would happily retain the talented trio of players, though that may be nothing more than wishful thinking.
"I saw guys we want back. Now do we have the wherewithal to bring them back and is it a good use of resources? That’s the next [part] of the conversation," Harbaugh told reporters (h/t Fox Sports' Ralph Vacchiano).
John Harbaugh drops brutal truth about Giants' key free agents
The Giants aren't just fighting against other teams to re-sign a few of their brightest spots from an otherwise nightmarish 2025 campaign. They are also facing a less-than-ideal financial situation, which Harbaugh ostensibly recognizes.
New York must think twice before making any significant long-term investments. They're already approaching the roughly $300 million 2026 salary cap, and that's before making any moves. As things stand, Robinson, Flott and Eluemanor are too rich for their blood.
For what it's worth, the Giants have a clear path to freeing up funds to spend elsewhere without releasing anyone. Nevertheless, a squad with several needs could pull that lever to make a plethora of smaller-scale moves instead of a handful of big transactions. Robinson, Flott and Eluemanor all figure to fetch sizable contracts.
Robinson settled in as one of the better slot receivers in football and Flott was the Giants' top outside corner. Eluemunor was a key cog for a Giants offensive line that surprised many in 2025. In a perfect world, they're all representing Big Blue for years to come, though that's far from the reality of the matter.
It's easy to sit here and tell Harbaugh and the Giants what they should do. However, bringing ideas that sound great in theory to life can be much harder in practice. Retaining Robinson, Flott and Eluemanor would create a significant ripple effect that will come at the expense of the rest of the roster.
