When the New York Giants hired John Harbaugh to be their next head coach, he was brought in for simply one reason, and that is bring a winning product back on the field.

After compiling just two winning seasons over the last 10 seasons, New York can only hope that Harbaugh will finally get this franchise back on track, which has been nothing short of a laughing stock for a very long time. With Harbaugh, a Super Bowl-winning coach, now in the building, a whole new culture change will undoubtedly ensue.

With this cultural shift, the 63-year-old will not tolerate anything from his new team that he does not view as NFL-caliber, especially a lack of effort, as he made very clear in his latest comments.

John Harbaugh won't let a lack of effort fly by under his leadership with the NY Giants

During an exclusive interview with Steve Serby of the New York Post, Harbaugh wanted to make one thing clear, entering his first year as the leading man for Big Blue:

"I won’t tolerate a lack of effort," Harbaugh said. "That's not negotiable, and you got to go out there and you got to play with great effort, play as hard as you can."

Boy, aren't these welcoming comments from a Giants head coach? Over the last several seasons, that lack of effort to which Harbaugh alluded has quite simply not been there for the G-Men.

There have been many games over this streak of futility during which the Giants have looked overmatched, unprepared, or simply taken their foot off the gas pedal. Case in point, this past season in which New York blew double-digit leads six times, including that infamous Mile High disaster against the Denver Broncos that saw the Giants cough up a 19-0 fourth quarter lead with Denver ending up scoring an inexcusable 33 points in the fourth quarter to stun New York and the rest of the league to that matter.

A loss like that or any blown double-digit lead will certainly not fly under a Harbaugh-led team, even though during his 18-year tenure with the Baltimore Ravens, there have been similar instances.

This Giants team on both sides of the ball is simply too talented to have a repeat of what we saw last year. And with Harbaugh bringing in a ton of experience of winning and going on playoff runs, you certainly have to take his latest comments about a lack of effort very seriously.
