New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has spent the last four years under new-age coaches Lane Kiffin and Brian Daboll. He takes risks, talks trash, and even started a scuffle during a training camp practice. That doesn't sound like the kind of player who would appeal to a veteran head coach like John Harbaugh.
But Harbaugh has nothing but praise for his second-year quarterback, lauding his willingness to accept responsibility for his actions. When asked about the response to the practice altercation, Harbaugh pointed out just how accountable Dart was.
"Well, we have our team meeting, and all those plays come up, the different things come up. So, that's an opportunity for coaching points. So, we went over the sequence, and everybody knows. So, it was good. He was great about it. He's great about accepting responsibility and he's a very accountable guy. I feel like all the guys are. I really like that about this team. To me, they're very intentional about their work and they're very accountable about their process, if you want to say it that way. I really liked that. I feel like it's a bunch of guys that make the most of the day because of that."

If the number of times that Harbaugh mentioned accountability is any indication, the head coach places a high priority on his players' willingness to accept responsibility.
The altercation started when Dart threw the football at cornerback Greg Newsome's helmet. Newsome didn't back down, and a fight nearly broke out. Dart was penalized for the incident, pushing the offense back 15 yards in the drill.
These practice bouts aren't rare, especially when players are fighting for their spot on the roster. Still, Harbaugh clearly wasn't a fan of Dart's actions.
But Dart's willingness to accept responsibility and move on is a valuable quality in a young quarterback. It could be what allows him to develop into the player the Giants are hoping to see.
The former first-round pick has the arm talent and athleticism to become a top-ten quarterback in the NFL. His ability to extend plays and hit receivers with pinpoint accuracy has fans and analysts believing in a breakout season in 2026.
Still, he needs to grow in the mental areas of the game. Whether it's his processing time or his affinity for risks on the field, defenses have been able to exploit some of Dart's weaknesses.
His quickness to hold himself accountable, even for something that happened between plays, should leave Giants fans encouraged. Dart has the mental makeup to grow as a player, becoming the kind of star that Harbaugh is looking for in his quarterback.
