The New York Giants made a lot of noise this offseason, with a flurry of new faces entering the organization. But they are none more important or bigger than landing one of the most accomplished head coaches of all time in John Harbaugh.
Right at the top of the food chain, this team has a dignified winner and a presence that has been missing for a very long time. To say that he's the biggest offseason story is an understatement. Senior Managing Editor Dan Salomone of Giants.com made sure to address that in one of his more recent pieces.
Let's talk about why it is so obvious, and why this was the perfect time to get him.
John Harbaugh could be the missing piece to a Giants Super Bowl run
The transition from Daniel Jones to Russel Wilson to Jaxson Dart has been a rough go of it, but the worst of it is behind us now. Jones has been in Indianapolis for a solid bit now, with a new contract under his belt. Wilson is now retired, and Dart is entering his first official football season as the undisputed starting quarterback of the New York Football Giants.
Harbaugh was brought in to capitalize on where the G-Men are at now. Who knows where this team would have been had they fired or kept Brian Daboll earlier or later? What matters is what the 63-year-old entering Year 19 brings to the table in 2026.
When looking at what it takes to win a Super Bowl, a complete team effort from the guys on the field is a must. Absolutely nothing good can happen without them succeeding. But the formation and purpose of direction on both sides of the ball is orchestrated by one man on the sideline with a headset on.
Expect great results when you hire a great coach. That is exactly what Giants general manager Joe Schoen did by bringing in an elite talent like Harbaugh. Achieving 193 wins and 12 playoff berths in 18 years with Baltimore is a very loud statistic on a resume.
The Giants needed to finally find their first stable coach since Tom Coughlin, and they nailed it. The experiments with Ben McAdoo, Joe Judge, and Brian Daboll were failures, as this franchise tried to reinvent the wheel with moves they thought were right. Obviously, it didn't work.
Now, with John Harbaugh on the sideline wearing the famous "NY" logo, there's no reason not to be sold on a turnaround. The team's foundation of talent was already established last season, and key new pieces were brought in to massively upgrade the roster.
Add an elite quarterback to the mix, and this organization might just pull off one of the fastest 180-degree turnarounds in NFL history.
